INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT
Objective: Your Individual Assignment should provide an in-depth analysis of the Business Model
Canvas (BMC) task/s you are assigned to work on within your team’s business challenge, i.e.
AusAir go-to-market strategy for a selected country/city.
Format: Your assigned BMC task/s will cover one of the four blocks within the framework:
infrastructure, customers, offering, or finances and could be further subdivided along the nine
components of the BMC.
Your BMC task/s are determined by you in consultation with your team and tutor. The allocation
decision is made based on your strengths, prior experience and preferences along with
requirements of your team. Each team member is expected to work on a different task/s of the
BMC. Between the group the whole of the BMC should be covered.
You are required to analyse your BMC task/s in-depth while maintaining good understanding of
other parts of the BMC as they are closely related to your task/s. It is essential that you spend time
exploring all parts of the BMC before completing your own Individual Assignment. It is equally
essential that all members of the team communicate from the start and throughout the duration of
the project to ensure your Individual Assignments are related/relevant to each other so that your
group can deliver a coherent, logical Group Assignment.
Structure:
1) Title
2) Executive summary – succinct summary of the challenge and findings (max 150 words)
3) Introduction and background to business challenge and the individual BMC task/s, including
purpose, why it matters and scope

analysis; clearly states any assumptions made; can include graphics to help illustrate
6) Discussion and recommendations – explains what the findings mean and conclusions about
them; any preliminary recommendations should be derived from the analysis and must be practical,
actionable and specific
7) Reference list – to be formatted using the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition
referencing style
8) Appendices (if appropriate) – may include charts, tables, supporting information
Content: Your Individual Assignment needs to be focused on your analysis and should
demonstrate how you arrived at your findings. The emphasis should be made on the quality and
rigour of your analytical work, including finding reliable sources and making informed and plausible
assumptions.
There is no requirement to apply theoretical concepts from e.g. management or innovation studies
at this stage as the focus should be made on your work with industry analytics, media publications
and other secondary resources. Think of how you would write an analytical report for a major
thinktank: it should be well-researched, analytical and independent.
While your predictions are important, it is the analytical process that ensures the quality of your
work. For example, in the Finances block of the BMC, the focus should be on your analysis of the
market and predicted demand as well as cost structure, not on the precise numbers, which are
very difficult to predict at this stage.
There is no expectation of a comprehensive list of recommendations at this stage. However, any
preliminary recommendations you could draw from your analysis must be practical, actionable and
specific.
Required activities: Work with library databases and publicly available sources. Individual and
group work, regular consultations with the tutor.
