While Tobacco is one of the leading preventable causes of death worldwide, it is also one of the most profitable business to improve the economy of a country. More than 50 senators and representatives from both parties; Republicans and Democrats know the impact of the Tobacco industry in the United States economy. In that industry, in order to be successful, there are a few major actors, organizations, players that are involve. They are the Tobacco growers, The American Medical Association, The lobbyists, The 662,400 tobacco workers and the eight countries that are part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that Kentucky exported about $238 million worth of tobacco in 2010. The same year, North Carolina exported $600 million worth. More than a third of the country's 662,400 tobacco workers work in North Carolina, according to the state's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. But with that being said some countries around the world have the competitive advantage because of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement that allowing a much better way to trade and reduce on taxes and tariffs on exports and imports between these countries. These countries are Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. While they have the competitive advantage, Zimbabwe has the comparative advantage because of the high quality of product that they have in tobacco. According to Herald.co.zw, “Zimbabwe has built a competencies and expertise in producing high quality tobacco”.
2) Foreign investment have some very strong effects in international laws, plan packaging and of course political. Because of the health risk and issues that comes with Tobacco, Government form all around the world at enacting laws to minimize the use of Tobacco and how they package the product. According to Tobacco control “The tobacco industry has a long history of using trade agreement to expand into new markets. Recent evidence suggest that major Tobacco companies are increasingly turning to trade and investment agreement to challenged measures aimed at reducing tobacco use”. They also spending lots of money on lobbyists to help them defend and regulate the tobacco industry. Meanwhile, the Health Department also spending tremendous amount of money on education on how Tobacco can destroy someone life. TV commercials constantly, showing the result of smoking tobacco after a number of years, such as cancer and other health issues. Government buildings, offices, Hotels and so many other places become “smoke free” which help reducing the use of tobacco and also prevent second hand smoke issues.
3) Among the problems associated with the health of tobacco consumers and the economic in the Tobacco industry, the most pressing issues is the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement between some of the countries around the world. According to McClatchyDC website which is like a journal in the Washington area “The United States does billion of dollars in Tobacco trade with countries such as Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam that are part of the Trans-Pacific Partner Agreement.” If tobacco growers in the United States does not join the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, it will impact our economy and the industry tremendously starting from the growers, workers, company like Marlboro that package the product and export it to other countries around the world. As a business leader, I would encourage all the Tobacco growers whether in the U.S or in other countries to carefully grow their Tobacco product, in order words monitor the ingredients they use to make the product. Tobacco is very addictive especially with the nicotine that is in it. Make a nicotine free Tobacco. If the Coffee industry can do it why not the Tobacco. Whoever grows Tobacco with less amount of nicotine will have a tax break that would allow them to export and import the product at a better price. Just like in alcohol there is percentage of how strong the alcohol is on the label of the bottle, they should have such a thing in the packaging of tobacco as far as the percentage of the nicotine. Knowing that the tobacco industry is so lucrative, it will be extremely hard to eliminate this product completely, but we can minimize the addiction that comes with using this product.
4) Reading about the impact of globalization on tobacco use, some of the rights that are currently of my greatest concern worldwide, is the right to leave a free healthy life without even being a smoker, and the constant widespread use of child labor in tobacco farming and leaf production. Currently, according to Rodriguez and St. Clair from structural-communication.com, “there has been a rise in smoking related diseases due to the globalization of the tobacco industry. There are 1.1 billion smokers in the world, and United States contribute to 4% of these people. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the world today”. Also the fact that underage children are expose to become potential smokers by working in the growing farms is really something that should be a world concerns and not just mine. Today many government buildings and private businesses are smoke free because of the danger of second hand smoke which can lead to cancer and other diseases. While the tobacco companies are trying to portray themselves as the good guys, by properly label the product, adding an age restriction on the buyer of the product, ect… and even sale it at a reasonable price, the people that are pro-tobacco are educating the public a much better way of the danger of tobacco by putting billboards, TV commercials and of course your private physician by showing the result of smoking tobacco which is lungs cancer and other diseases. I have never seen a TV commercial of a cool brand of tobacco to smoke, but tobacco growers is a billion dollar industry. Makes someone wonder why?
5) Some of the conflicting values between cultures that a marketer in the tobacco industry should consider before expanding internationally, are the fact that smoking tobacco can cause cancer even if you never smoked Tobacco in your life but hang around people that do smoke, and the fact that it is very addictive because of the nicotine. Before expanding internationally, a marketer should find out how expensive health insurance is in that country. Even when tobacco companies’ still denying that tobacco doesn’t cause heart disease, respiratory illnesses, and lung cancer. Not only tobacco is not healthy for someone that smokes, but it also dangerous for someone that is around a smoker. If a country has a poor health system, introducing, encouraging and facilitating the use of tobacco in that country will create a huge health issues where the toll rate of people dying because of heart disease or lung cancer will be very high.
Because of the addiction of tobacco, marketer should consider the average life (age) of the people living in that country. If the life expectancy is not long, then the people will not use the product for a long time. This is why Tobacco Company is targeting teenagers. They will use the product for many years before getting a serious illness. Marketer should also find out what is the legal age in that country to purchase or use tobacco.
 6) In my industry the areas of international law that are most relevant to firms according to the Mc.ClatchyDC News Paper “The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement” which is the agreement that focusing on the “plain packaging specifically the paper discusses the implications of public health regulation shape the bureaucratic structures and decision-making processes of business regulation at the international level; introduce a higher standard of protection for trademarks than is currently provided under the Agreement of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights; and expand the coverage of Investor-State Dispute Settlement which empowers corporations to litigate directly against governments where they are deemed to be in breach of investments”. Also organization such as the “WTO” (World Trade Organization) according to Tobacco Control BMJ”, that organization “oversees a large number of multinational agreements which member countries must ratify on accession and usually for trade or investment regime. That organization operates alongside a large number of bilateral and regional agreement”. Government political usually influence these areas of international trades. Investors also influence these areas of international law.

These are comments from the Teacher

Student, Your paper describing crucial issues that surround contemporary SCM in your selected industry is a good demonstration of your understanding of our discipline. One of our key outcomes for this course is to ensure that you are equipped with the writing skills necessary to communicate a powerful and persuasive written argument. There are some formatting issues to correct so that they do not negatively affect the level of refinement and detail in your work.
1.	You did not follow the instructions to apply APA formatting guidelines in preparing your paper (double spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman, title page, in-text citations, reference page).
2.	You should have three main sections at this point: Trade, Investment, & Development. Use level 1 headings for each section:https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/16/
3.	Your paper contains a large amount of quoted content, much of which is not identified as such. As noted in the announcements you do not earn credit for quoted content in this course.
4.	There are numerous grammar errors in your paper. Proofread more carefully. Setting your MS Word Spellcheck Writing Style to "Formal" will help.
5.	See the “Citing Sources” course announcement for the required format for supporting your work with properly formatted citations & references.
6.	Your paragraphs are quite long. Revise to separate them into individual ideas: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/606/01/
7.
8.	You should have several Globalization 101 references, you need to distinguish between them in your citations. Check out the section on "Two or more authors in the same year" at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/03/.
Mastering the mechanics of formatting your formal written work will help you be more successful in both your academic and professional writing. Review the info in the course announcement titled "Citing Sources", and see additional comments in the rubric. Let me know if I can help you with these requirements, as they must be addressed to earn a passing grade on the final paper.
