Assignment Prompt
A common use of GIS has been to analyze the spatial distribution of criminal activities to find patterns and help crime prevention. However, it has been proven that spatial analysis is not enough to efficiently prevent crime, as knowing when crimes occur can provide a better picture of the situation and give more effective tools to policy makers. By creating spatio-temporal maps and exploring visualization systems a powerful resource could be created. (Some programming and database skills may be required)
Instruction:
This project as described above will use GIS tools to analyze these places that crimes occur in leicestershire. IT should show and explain the possible occurrences of these crimes and however suggest possible solutions to prevent them from happening based on time of occurrence. The above link provides nodes and names of these places that the crimes occur. Gis tools as explained above will be used such as Arccatalog and Arcmap (for point pattern analysis). However the study will concentrate on just the crimes that happen in 2010 to 2012.
