PSYC 1010 University of Cincinnati Career Counseling Psychology Paper Write a 2 page paper describing a career in psychology that requires a BACHELORS OF SCIENCE IN PSYCHOLOGY. You should describe what the career is, including what the typical tasks are for that career, what types of locations hire for that career, and what specific educational needs
are required (e.g. business courses vs. biology courses). Describe what a typical day might look like for someone in that career. Also write about what the average salary looks
like for that career, and what the prospects look like for that career path over the next few years. Make sure to include a discussion of the pros and cons of going into that
particular career path. All writing should be in your own words; no quotes. There is a significant 10 pt. deduction for each direct quote. THE INSTRUCTIONS AND RUBRIC ARE ATTACHED BELOW! PSYC1010 Career Paper
Spring Semester 2020
READ THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS. THEY COMPLETELY EXPLAIN THE CAREER PAPER REQUIREMENTS: For your major assignment for this course, you need to write a 2-3
page paper about a specific career option one can seek with a degree in Psychology. This can be a more specific version of something we’ve already talked about in class, or it
can be a career path we haven’t discussed. It can be a career that only requires a Bachelor’s degree, one that requires a Master’s degree, or one that requires a terminal degree
(Ph.D. or Psy.D.). If you are changing majors, you may write about the new major; however, this type of paper will take quite a bit more work (background research on new
major/job) as I will use the same grading key and expect the same details in your paper.
In doing the research for this paper, you must use the American Psychological Association website (www.apa.org). If you write about another career, you can cite APA as the
career that I first considered but have changed to… (new career). You can also use our textbook, esp. Chapters 9 (What Career Options are there for Student with a BA or BS in
Psychology?) and Chapter 11 (What Can You Do with an Advanced Degree in Psychology?) and the US Bureau of Labor website (www.bls.gov). You might be able to find some
peer-reviewed articles detailing the state of the career path by doing a literature search through PsycInfo (Like we did for the other research articles in this class). When you find
other sources, make sure that you ONLY USE peer reviewed articles; no blogs, Google postings, etc. You should cite what you used; either in the paper (a citation like the one I
did above for apa.org; enough so that I could visit the website) or in a references list at the end of the paper (full reference so I could access the material). I will not grade your
reference list style, but make sure to list the resource name, author, and date; or web address. This paper will be graded using the rubric given below. Attach this grading rubric
to your paper as there is a 10 point deduction for papers turned in without the rubric). If you follow the rubric, you should do fine on this paper. This assignment is due at the
end of the semester on the due date posted to the course website.
