History Project
I. Each student is to select a topic based upon his/her specialized interest. One should take his/her topic and show how the political concepts and issues are reflected in today’s world. All topics should be approved by your instructor so as to eliminate duplication.
II. Procedures
Students are to collect articles from a variety of sources. Students must clip or print the articles from the sources. One should take notes on each article read or used. Students should use newspapers, magazines, and journals. No books are to be used for this project
III Proposed Plan for the Project
1. Label the project – title, student name, date.
2. Submit a Table of Contents
a. Cite your sources using Chicago style for each source in (b).
b. Have one section for newspapers, one for magazines & one for scholarly journals.
c. Submit Table of Contents by Oct.30, 2013.
3. Arrange all material chronologically and by source.
4. Highlight important sections of all articles with colored makers.
5. Write a brief summary of each article. A separate progress summary will be written later.
6. Use a variety of aspects within your sources, (Editorials, special columns, political cartoons, advertisements, etc).
7. Keep your collection up-to-date.
a. An explanation and definition of the issue. (1-2 pages)
b. A summary of the progress and happenings of your topic over a period of
time. (2-3 pages)
c. A comprehensive analysis of the topic. (3-5 pages) – THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE PROJECT
d. A minimum of three possible solutions or suggestions you believe would
improve the future. (1-2 pages)
Grading Procedures.
The satisfactory grade, the C level, may be achieved by using only the basic source material; 5 NEWSPAPER ARTICLES, 5 MAGAZINES, and 10 SCHOLARLY JOURNAL articles. Determination of this grade hinges on whether the materials in the sources have been exhausted, meaning that all the information relates to the course concepts. The procedures and plan in preparing the project have been completed. Most importantly, that #8 of the plan has been developed comprehensively and portrays a quality product.
higher grade, the B level, may be achieved by exhausting all the 5 newspaper articles, 10 magazine articles and 10 scholarly journal articles.
