CLASSMATE’S POST

Two areas I was struck by as laudable were the first and last. As a longtime educator, I found creating a culture of collective responsibility to one another is a powerful catalyst. Developing a sense of unity and inclusiveness is fundamental to synergistic environments. Our organization thrives on diversity. Teaching adult students from a vast demographic and international community to work in a high-hazard industry requires a collective duty to take care of each other. The second area I found laudable was the one I take pride in, “Take the initiative to tell the rest of the story.” Some say that familiarity breeds contempt. While I believe in privacy, I don’t espouse this philosophy. I believe that familiarity breeds loyalty and community. In our life and death occupational setting we have no room for petty differences. Sharing my personal experiences generates trust. This creates community and subsequently capitalizes a learning environment. What I appreciate about this area is equalizing effect “the rest of the story” has on ego. It’s great to be here, and I look forward to your insights and opinions.
