Welcome to a day in the life of a fruit fly. You will be completing Punnett Squares to tell me about a future generation. To complete this assignment, you will need to understand the following terms:
dominant/ recessive traits
homozygous/ heterozygous
phenotype/ genotype
Read through the information at http://www.unc.edu/depts/our/hhmi/hhmi-ft_learning_modules/fruitflymodule/index.html
You will be completing the section entitled “Your Experiment.” Each student will be coupled with a fellow classmate in order to complete the assignment. Therefore, each team member will take on a dominant or a recessive trait. You can turn in one completed assignment per team rather than individually. Be sure to answer all of the questions posed on the question worksheet. Lastly, explain how this assignment relates to Mendelian genetics.
