U5 Case Study

Project description
Scenario

You have been hired out as a contractor to Dover Leasing company, who has recently hired a new server administrator.

You should have completed Unit 4 Case Study.

Task

The new server administrator has been given the task of creating a performance baseline for Dover Leasing servers and network, but he does not know

how to do this. Prepare a document for the new administrator detailing what items should be included in the server/network baseline and what Windows

programs and tools can be used to gather the information and create the baseline

Here is U4 Case Study

1.Dover Leasing Company can implement folder permissions by configuring file permissions for a single folder with respect to libraries of folders.

These permissions can apply to members of the managers, accounts, and human resources groups (Tomsho, 2009). Second, Dover can allocate folder

permissions on an individual level to objects that comprise of users, groups, and computers. Thirdly, Dover can regulate folder permissions by

endowing or refuting particular kinds of folder access like Read or Write. Lastly, Dover can organize the inheritance of folder permissions from

parent folders. Shared folder permissions and NTFS permissions work together only when most limiting permissions succeed. In this case, there is

usually a dispute in the configuration.

2.You can configure NTFS permissions for the three groups of employees at Dover by using the four standard groups: local, domain local, global, and

universal (Tomsho, 2009). First, the local group operates on member servers and work terminals and is assigned permissions to resources on the local

workstation. This group is appropriate for accounts group at Dover although the organization can include members from human resource and managers

groups. Secondly, the domain local group has access to resources in the local dominion and is suitable for one of any of the work groups at Dover.

The global group has access to any part of the firms network, which makes it suitable for human resources and mangers groups since they are members

from the local dominion. Lastly, the universal group can accommodate the accounts, managers, and human resources groups as they have permissions to

resources in any dominion in the firms network (Tomsho, 2009).
3.Advantages of implementing a DFS are combined namespace, site transparency, storage scalability, namespace scalability, more availability of file

server data, substitute site selection based on price, and load distribution (Tomsho, 2009). Disadvantages include the need for adequate storage

space on client machinery, many server requests for full access to folders, the production of a huge amount of network traffic, the mandatory

requirement of stateful file servers, and denied write operation when servers are down.
