You must choose articles from journals that are related to fire science, and they should be of interest to you. The points below show the general approach to writing an Article Critique. Please include the following points in your critique:
• A brief introduction of the article and its importance to the fire service community • A statement of the problem or issue surrounding the article • A description of each side of the debate if multiple views are offered • An analysis of the data and/or information about the incident • Limited and justifiable conclusions on the positions taken in the article
Each of your Article Critiques should be 3-4 pages in length (12 point font, double-spaced). Choose articles that have sufficient content to develop an article critique of the specified length. The title page and reference page are not included in the required length. You may search for peer-reviewed journals. Each of your Article Critiques must contain at least three references and may include Internet sources, books, and professional journals or resources related to the profession.
Review and critique an article in a journal related to any of the wide range of subjects related to the administration of fire- fighting operations covered in Unit IV. You can earn an extra 10 points if your article is from a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal. Fire science articles should not be more than two years old, but if you use an article from a peer-reviewed journal, it can be up to four years old.
