OVERVIEW OF TEAM PROJECTs

Overview: Your team is supposed to vitalize a specific industry sector (e.g., health, education, retail, agriculture, transportation, etc) by using ICT. Specifically, each team will focus on a small to medium enterprise that is highly digital. It may be any company in any part of the world or may be a Digital Services Center (DSC) that provides a set of integrated high impact services in health, education, public safety, public welfare or any other vital sector. A given DSC may focus on one particular high impact area and may take one of the following forms:
• A customer support center
• A healthcare center
• An HIE (Health information Exchange)
• A digital community center
• A B2B Marketplace (such as eBay or Ali Baba)
• A Disaster Recovery and Management Center
• A Tourism Center
• A Business Intelligence Center for a small island or small village
• An e-Agriculture center
• A G2G Center (e.g., JNET)
• A financial services center
• Any small business
• Any other centers that you can envision (please suggest some)

Your team has to select a particular enterprise for a specific country, region, city, village or island. Your team can use any geographic location from any part of the world as a “model” for this project and can use the website of the chosen location to determine the needed services. You must also use the Open Big Data (OBD) sources such as the World Bank Open Data Institute, UN Department of Statistics, World Economic Forum, OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) data, and the like.

Project1. Propose an overall vision of the selected enterprise, identify and describe the main services of the enterprise and its possible value to the users. Also develop an enterprise architecture for the enterprise that shows how all the pieces fit together (e.g., business processes, enterprise applications, ICT infrastructure, governance and security). . Your team needs to do a solid study of the landscape, develop some core competencies (Intellectual Property) and present the initial results that will be refined later. Each member of the team should learn about and become a champion of an existing EA framework (e.g., TOGAF, FEAF, Zachman, etc). Use a computer aided planning, engineering and management environment to establish different EA views.

Project2: Your team goes beyond Project1 and develops an overall vision that integrates individual services of an enterprise DSC by using SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) principles. The focus is heavily on collaboration/coordination between services and enterprises. Your main tasks are:
• A set of coordinated (integrated?) digital services that concentrate on significantly improving the life of the residents of the region through collaboration.
• Interagency services between the enterprises for specific scenarios that require collaboration between Health, Public Safety (e.g., disaster management) and Public Welfare (e.g., economic development through tourism, entrepreneurships, or ecommerce)
• Hands on experimentations and gamifications by using a computer aided planning, engineering and management platform and other tools.
Project1 Details (120 Points)

Your team must propose an overall vision of the selected enterprise (e.g., a DSC), identify and describe the main services of your enterprise and an enterprise architecture that shows how all the pieces fit together (e.g., business processes, enterprise applications, ICT infrastructure, governance and security). . You need to become an expert of EA as a result of this project. Your overall task is to:
• Analyze EA literature and choose three major EA frameworks that could be of value to this project.
• Each member of the team should learn about and become a champion of an existing EA framework. Each member should also choose a particular aspect (view) as his/her area(s) of specialization (e.g., project management, governance, system integration, whatever).
• The team should suggest and use a conceptual framework to analyze and compare/contrast the different EA frameworks.
• Study business architecture (BA), list the key building blocks of BA and the most popular tools that support BA (e.g., tools for BPR and workflow)
• Study application architecture (AA), list the key building blocks of AA and the most popular tools that support AA (e.g., ERP Systems)
• Use gamification as a training tool
• Use the selected DSC as an example to illustrate the ideas developed so far (e.g., determine the most appropriate EA model for this DSC, propose an EA, a BA and an AA for this company, identify the main tools that could be used in establishing a BA and an AA and examine the impact of cloud computing on this DSC).

Project1A – Quick Results (30 Points)

The purpose is to do a quick analysis, produce very basic results and share your ideas with other teams.

Deliverable (A 5-8 slides sketch that shows the following)
• Name of the enterprise selected and some basic statistics (e.g., population to be served, main focus, etc) – 1 slide
• A list of 5-10 services of potentially high value to the enterprise. These services may be in any sector (health, education, public safety, public welfare, agriculture, transportation, etc). You may use the view presented in Figure1 to answer this question.
• Short (1-2 lines) per service to show how ICT could help (the potential impact of ICT on these services)
• An overall EA sketch of how everything will fit together for this community (you may use a formal framework such as TOGAF or invent your own conceptual view)
• Anything else (e.g., 2 bullet points from the project overview or anything else you feel is of value to this project). You have complete freedom (please do not ask what does freedom mean  )

IMPORTNT: Reference Materials and Annotations Used (10 Points):

There must be one slide deck per team uploaded to Dropbox. The slide deck must have a title page that clearly specifies the team members. After the title page, a “Team Contribution” slide must be included that shows what each member has done in the project (one line) and a percentage of contribution by each team member (total must add to 100%). For example, in a team of 4, the total contribution will ideally be 25% for each member. This Contribution will impact your grade. Any disagreements about contribtion must be resolved by the team members through voting.

The slide deck must be properly annotated (by using Powerpoint Notes) that explain the diagrams and also the key ideas presented (5 points).

In addition, a References slide must be included to list the materials that were used to develop this solution. This must include the following:
o Specific names of case studies from the text that were helpful in this assignment
o Specific topics in the text (chapter, section) that were helpful in this assignment
o Outside materials (give specific links) on the Net that were helpful in this assignment

Part B: Detailed Deliverable –(90 Points)

This part will heavily rely on hands-on experiments and is subdivided into the following two tasks:

Solution by Hand (30 Points): Develop a detailed solution that addresses all bullet points mentioned in Overview. You should think of EA views and portals (portal for tourism, a portal for disaster management, etc) that support these views. This is an extension of what you have done in Project1A and should just be refinements and additional slides in the slide deck that you have already created for Project1A.

FEAF and DODAF Analysis (10 Points): The US Government has introduced FEAF (Federal EA Framework) and DODAF (Dept of Defense Architecture Framework). It is being claimed the FEAF and DODAF are not restricted to US Govt and can be used anywhere (including small counties, villages, etc). Please analyze and answer the following question: Can FEAF and DODAF be used by SIDS. Yes or No and why (around 4 slides: one for FEAF, One for DODAF, and 2 for why and why not with some justification).

Hands-On Experiments (40 Points): This is the main new activity and will involve conducting detailed hands-on experiments to investigate how this problem can be addressed by using available computer aided planning tools. Specifically, you should conduct the following experiments by using SPACE, found at www.space4ict.com (you will need to use SPACE at Stage2 level for these experiments):
• Use SPACE to develop the detailed plans and EA for each service that you have in mind (each team member should do it separately)
• Examine the SPACE outputs shown in the BIC Circle and evaluate the reports
• Generate the Sample Portal for your service by using SPACE
• Review SPACE outputs and determine if SPACE produce TOGAF compliant EA outputs. Can these outputs be modified to represent other EAFs (e.g., Zachman)
• Investigate the role of SPACE games within the scope of this project. Are they of any value? What exactly?

After evaluating SPACE, you should find and evaluate at least one other tool available for EA that has similar capabilities.

The main deliverable will be a Self Assessment report that will be posted later.
