Assessment task 2 requires the writing of an academic essay. This essay should be an ‘argumentative essay’, and must therefore contain an argument that is used as the structuring element of the paper. The assignment is based on a case study that describes the impact of employee motivation, job structure, engagements, remuneration structure and relevant issues on business activities. The purpose of the essay is to identify the roles of employee motivation, engagements, remunerations, diversity and other challenges in managing organisations. Students are expected to engage in extensive research within the academic literature relating to employee motivation theories and models, employee remunerations, engagements and diversity management.

The assessment item is based on the case study titled Remuneration, Incentives and Benefits: Johnson Technology (pg. 473-474 of textbook). The case itself, and assignment requirements are presented in the document and can also be accessed through the course website. You should read, and carefully analyse, the case and respond to the issues presented at the end of the case study within the context of an academic essay. You are required to support your argument with appropriate theoretical discussion and references.
The assignment should be a properly constructed academic essay. It should contain an effective introduction, discussion body (answering the questions) and conclusion. The introduction should introduce the essay, thesis statement (main objective of the assignment) and include your argument. The main body of the assignment should present the evidence you have collected to support your
arguments for the questions and the conclusion should restate your arguments, summarise the evidence and make a conclusion regarding your arguments.
The assignment should contain a coherent, but necessarily restricted review of the academic literature on the employee motivation, engagements, remuneration and other relevant topics in question. The literature review should be integrated into the assignment, not a separate section. A reference list formatted in the prescribed Harvard style is compulsory. Do not include a bibliography.
Task:
Based on the above case study write an argumentative essay that answers the following questions:
1. Image you are Jane Edwards (HR Manager for Johnson Technology). How would you go about implementing a plan for securing the future of these five employees with the company?
2. What steps could be made to cater to the individual needs of Ian, who has been described as a loner?
3. What could be done to limit the chances of rival organisations poaching valued staff from Johnson technology?
4. Consider the case of Josh. As a highly skilled Gen Y worker, what might Jane be able to do to secure his future with the company?
