Planning Multiple Regression Analysis

Planning a Factor Analysis

Given the variables you have identified in your research project’s hypothetical SPSS database, formulate a question for your study compatible with the use of a factor analysis of selected data.

For this assignment, write a two- to three-page paper with the following sections:

  • Identify six or more variables from your selected variable set that would fit the requirements for factor analysis. Create new variables if you don’t have exactly what you would need to do this type of analysis.
  • State your research question in a manner compatible with the use of a factor analysis. For instance, you could propose an exploratory analysis or one seeking to confirm a model or theory or assumption about the underlying factors measured in a questionnaire.
  • Elaborate on how you would plan your study in order to use factor analysis as your method of analysis. Describe and justify the methods you propose for each of the following (discuss any possible concerns or limitations in the proposed methods):
    • Determining sufficient sample size: Specify considerations for the selected alpha level, desired power, desired effect size, and the validation checks you may plan.
    • Selecting a sample: How would you ensure representativeness?
    • Performing statistical analyses: Include the method to be used, validation checks, and the use of factor scores.
    • Screening data and evaluating assumptions: Are any data transformations or modifications required? If yes, describe.
    • Interpreting outcomes in relation to the stated hypothesis(es).

Write your paper in Microsoft Word. Name the file R7034_M6_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.doc and submit it to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

Through the end of the module, review your partner’s research question and design for using a factor analysis. Post a response addressing the following points:

  • What are the challenges and strengths in your partner’s design?
  • How does the design promote sample representativeness?
  • What are your thoughts about the proposed sample size?
  • How will the methods for analyses, validation checks, and the possible use of factor scores serve the goals of the study?

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.
