I am applying for a summer medical program called the SMDEP. the program is mainly for students from Underserved populations. I already wrote the personal statement part of the application which emphasized a little on how healthcare was not advanced and cheap from where I came from.
THE SECOND ESSAY OF THE APPLICATION THAT I NEED YOUR HELP WITH HAS These INSTRUCTIONS:
SMDEP seeks individuals who will advance the goals of diversity in the medical profession, reduce health-care disparities, and/or improve health care to underserved populations. Please share your experiences in one or all of these areas. The available space for your response is 5300 characters, or approximately one full page. You will receive an error message if you submit an essay that exceeds the available space. Note: This essay is required. The Web application will not accept formatted text, therefore you should save any word processing document as plain text before pasting it into the Web application.
OK, HERE IS MY PERSONAL INFORMATION THAT MIGHT HELP YOU FOR THE ESSAY THAT I WANT (I ALREADY INCLUDED THIS INFO IN SOME OTHER PARTS OF THE APPLICATION SO PLEASE DO NOT RESTATE IT, HOWEVER YOU CAN INCORPORATE IT :
1)I was born and raised in Kurdistan, Iran, an underserved region of the country. Growing up, I witnessed my parents struggle with finances. In a household of three, my mother was jobless and my father had to make ends meet on his own. My father’s shoulders were sinking with familial responsibilities and yet my education was his priority. In Kurdistan, the imbalance between rich and poor is created through the educational system because education can only be found within private schools. For instance, the teaching standards at nearly all the public schools were quite poorly.Schools of high achievement, had extremely high admission fees which my father could not afford. students at public schools ,unlike the private ones, were disadvantaged from learning English .My public school lacked adequate laboratory equipment or even well bound books. This deprived me of having a full on experience in science courses such as biology, chemistry, and physics.
2)Many individuals around the globe, specifically the third world countries are being neglected from receiving the quality health care which in most cases requires having advanced technologies, up-to date procedure techniques and medications. Providing the disadvantaged communities with affordable advanced medical technologies and equipments for treatment is one of my primary goals of becoming a physician.
3) in personal statement part of the application I mentioned how my grandfather had esophageal cancer, and how the lack of money, inadvanced medical technologies, and appropriate healthcare in our underserved community took his life.
